Amy Lisney-Smith

After eight years in the footwear industry, I realised the fashion field wasn't my true calling. I returned to university and earned my Master's in Art Therapy from the University of Hertfordshire in 2021.

I have experience supporting children and young people with learning difficulties, Autism, and ADHD. My practice experience includes private therapy settings and experiential learning within Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) and Special Educational Needs (SEN) school environments.

I currently work with young people age 6-18 on a 1:1 basis at the Wellbeing Room at im fine wellbeing in Fleetville, St. Albans.

I am registered with the HCPC: AS017515 and BAAT: 47706. I hold a current DBS certificate and am fully insured.

Art Therapy - the power of art making & play

The purpose of art therapy is to assist the client to process and communicate their emotions, feelings and personal experiences through the engagement of art materials, making of art, exploration and play whilst building a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship. It is through these processes that reflection can take place and allow for emotional regulation and reparation for the client.

I primarily use a psychodynamic, non-directive and client-centered approach to art therapy, adapting my practice to meet each client's unique needs. This may involve tailoring the art materials or adjusting my engagement approach with the client to meet their individual requirements. To ensure the best support, I find it valuable to have a phone consultation with the parent or guardian before the first session.

How can art therapy help?

  • Explore difficult life experiences within a safe and supported environment.

  • Develop communication skills.

  • Explore emotions and develop emotional regulation strategies.

  • Gain self-confidence.

  • Build a sense of identity.

  • Explore & develop relationships.

  • Develop strategies for coping with difference & change.

  • Encourage and support making good, safe personal choices.

The Wellbeing Room at im fine wellbeing

Im Fine - Wellbeing, is a unique lifestyle and wellness brand founded by myself and my old school friend, Natalie. Our journey started with a shared vision to promote positive mental health and support our community following the Covid-19 pandemic. Combining our passions for fashion, interior design, arts, and holistic therapies, we've created a sanctuary for self-care and creativity.

Our boutique is filled with women’s fashion, jewellery, our CBD range, home decor, gifts, toys and so much more!

“We are more than a boutique; we are a sanctuary for the local community”
